EXERCISE-BASED FALL PREVENTION PROGRAMS

Grouille ou Rouille

About Us

Grouille ou Rouille is a physical activity program that has been in existence for over 40 years. It is a program that is led by the Université du Troisième-Âge du Sud-Est (UTASE) du Nouveau Brunswick.

This program, which is tailored exclusively for older adults, has over four hundred active individuals and is offered in various locations across the south-east region of New Brunswick.

Aging is inevitable,

 but not its effects

Program Description

The program offers two sessions yearly, one in the fall and one in the winter. Each session varies in length, with the minimum being  12 weeks. Participant registration fees are low, and cover the costs associated with offering the programming.

The overall goal of the program is to offer a safe, supervised physical activity programming that targets the five determinants of physical fitness, being cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular endurance, muscular force, flexibility and body composition.

A programmed and progressive approach to developing these determinants offers the possibility for regular participants to improve their quality of life and reduce conditions associated with physical inactivity, including chronic cardiovascular conditions and the risk of falls.

Is this program for me?

Regular physical activity offers the opportunity for older adults to maintain their independence and can reduce the risk of developing chronic conditions and falling. If this is something that interests you, this program is for you!

Our program is exercise specialist led, thus offering the possibility of varying the activities based on the individual needs of the participants. Because of this, we are able to offer this program to a wide variety of individuals with differing needs.

How to become a participant

Before becoming a participant, we recommend that you consult with a medical professional to assess your readiness for participating in an exercise program. Please click the link to the ‘screening form’ to assist in this evaluation process.
