FINDING BALANCE NB

About Us

Finding Balance is a program which was developed over 10 years ago by the Injury Prevention Centre at the University of Alberta and designed to raise awareness about the prevention of slips, trips, and falls among older adults. The Finding Balance program is now offered throughout Canada with the help of other dedicated provincial stewards.

Finding Balance in New Brunswick

With the support from Trauma NB, the Finding Balance Program was first introduced to New Brunswickers in 2016. In this province, Finding Balance NB has a goal to reduce falls and fall-related injuries in older adults by supporting public awareness efforts throughout the province.

Finding Balance NB also aim to help raise provincial and national awareness of the importance of using A Collaborative Approach to facilitate the delivery of comprehensive individualized care according to best available evidence for clinical practice. This is accomplished by working with select stakeholders to support primary care providers with evidence-based resources such as the Algorithm for Fall Risk Screening, Assessment and Intervention.

FALL TALK Campaign

November is Falls Prevention Month across Canada. Trauma NB in collaboration with provincial stakeholders support the delivery of the FALL TALK campaign aims to encourage older adults, their families, their friends, caregivers, healthcare professionals and others to talk about falls and to consult the latest information and resources about fall prevention to help facilitate the conversation.

In addition, New Brunswickers are encouraged to lead or participate in engaging activities that can provide an opportunity for people of all ages to learn more about fall prevention such as the Virtual Trek Around New Brunswick.
